There is Still Beauty

Some may question the latter part of that statement, yet having watched just 5 minutes of the news makes the feeling concrete in my mind.

The report to which I am refering noted that N. Korea is considering the U.N.'s (our) economic sanctions, et al., a declaration of war. They have reason to be on guard, since the last time we imposed heavy sanctions on a country, we went to war (Iraq, after starving them for a number of years). The report also mentioned that we were sending one of our Naval vessels to Japan to police the blockade, further entrenching us in this new cold war.

A friend with whom I was talking about the problem asked: Isn't our government always trying to kill us? I supposed that this was true, but that it doesn't mean that we necessarily have to take it sitting down.

The question, though, deserves some cogitation. Do we, as those with minimal impact, simply focus our energies on creating peace & beauty in our lives' in hopes that it will spread like ripples in a stream? Or, do we try to confront the elements in our society hell-bent on dragging our name through the mud and creating animosity?

Granted, life is still relatively peaceful and lovely here in the Pacific Northwest. But, I live considerably closer to N. Korea than the people throwing stones in D.C.

Just keep looking at the picture above until any angst I have dredged is assuaged...
